It has been a busy pageant weekend! Add to the list of those elected over the past several days Miss Earth Italia 2011, Angelica Parisi of Torino. She won the title yesterday during a contest held in Marina di Vazarre on Italy's beautiful Ligurian Riviera. Angelica will represent Italy at Miss Earth 2011.

Miss USO 2010 Heidi Marie Ferren and the Liberty Bells entertain a U.S. soldier boy in New York City, during fabulous Fleet Week. Beauty School students who are Sex and the City buffs will know what Fleet Week is. Miss USO is chosen each year by the USO of Metropolitan New York and is among many people - celebrites and non-celebrities alike - who help lift the spirits of America’s troops and their families. MISTER SLOVENIA 2011 + MISS ITALIA SLOVENIA 2011

In a joint competition, Mister Slovenia 2011 and Miss Italia Slovenia 2011 were elected over the weekend.

There are two Mister Slovenia titleholders. Miha Dragoš, 23, is Mister Slovenia 2011 for Mister Universe Model, and Žan Cvet, 20 and 1m90, is Mister Slovenia 2011 for Mister International.

THE RATINGS PROJECT (TRP) - MISS UNIVERSE 2002

The 51st annual Miss Universe Pageant, held nine years ago on Wednesday, May 29, in Puerto Rico, was the last one televised on US broadcast network CBS (in 2003, it moved to rival network NBC). How were the U.S. television ratings for the 2002 Miss Universe Pageant? As they say, the ratings were boffo! The pageant won all of its time slots (9:00pm, 9:30pm, 10:00pm, and 10:30pm ET) by a mile, even winning over the NBA Playoff, and ranked 7th overall for the week of May 27-June 2, 2002. 11.3 million viewers in the U.S. tuned into the show to see Russia and Panama duke it out.

The six shows that beat Miss Universe that week?

1. NBA Playoff Sunday (NBC);
2. CSI (CBS);
3. NBA Playoff Friday (NBC);
4. NBA Playoff Tuesday (NBC);
5. Everybody Loves Raymond (CBS);
6. Becker (CBS)
7. Miss Universe Pageant (CBS)

Rounding out the top ten that week were 60 Minutes (CBS), PrimeTime Thursday (ABC), and Friends (NBC).

MISS UNIVERSE TANZANIA 2011

The new Miss Universe Tanzania 2011 was crowned last night during a glittering ceremony at the Golden Tulip Hotel in the capital city of Dar Es Salaam. Representing her East African nation at Miss Universe 2011 will be Nelly Kamwera. First runner-up was Nima Kilango; second runner-up was Yaceba Asenga. Some of our most astute scholars of African pageants might recognize Nelly - she was Miss Tanzania 2008 second runner-up. The Miss Universe Tanzania 2011 contest was sponsored by Vodacom Tanzania, which has sponsored the Miss World Tanzania contest in the past. We'll see if they sponsor both this year. Nelly is pure Tanzanite and we expect her to do well at Miss Universe 2011! What is tanzanite you ask? Our students in jewelry design will tell that according to Wikipedia, Tanzanite is the blue/purple variety of the mineral zoisite which was discovered in the Mererani Hills of Northern Tanzania in 1967, near the city of Arusha and Mount Kilimanjaro. It is used as a gemstone. Tanzanite is noted for its remarkably strong trichroism, appearing alternately sapphire blue, violet and burgundy depending on crystal orientation.

MISS UNIVERSE URUGUAY 2011

The new Miss Uruguay 2011 is blonde Fernanda Semino of Montevideo. She won the title last night during a gala event at the Conrad in the ultra-chic resort city of Punta del Este, Uruguay. Also crowned at the event was Miss World Uruguay 2011, Belén Sogliano. Runners-up were Diana Banchero, Paola Balbi, and Paula De Miquelerana.

The new Miss Moldova 2011 is Veronica Popovici, 21 and an economics student at university. She won the coveted title last night during a glittering pageant, beating out 21 other competitors.
